Interesting Question About Silver Maples
The silver maples was launched in 1988, its face value was $5. Silver price then was between $6-$7. Then from 1990 - 1994 silver seesaw between $5 and $3.60
What was the selling price of the silver maples then? Is it still spot plus $1-$2 ? consider that it has a face value of $5. |
Re: Interesting Question About Silver Maples
Remember, we're talking Canadian dollars here....as in FRN's.
POS in the early 90's ranges b/w $3.60 and $5 - - but the Canadian dollar was trading around $1.45 - $1.55 USD. So convert the POS in to Canadian dollars to get the spot then whatever premium ($1 or $2) and you've got a price over face value. Not by much though. Sure wish I'd know about this forum and silver back then. Pay $7 or so for an oz of silver that's GUARANTEED to be worth at least $5......wow, those were the days! |
Re: Interesting Question About Silver Maples
I picked up a few dozen Maples last year for a mere $7.05 each in a 'lot' deal............The high 'face value' to melt ratio was why I'm heavy on the maples - sure wish they were still $7 !

Re: Interesting Question About Silver Maples
There are also some Gold pieces from Canada that I have gotten with like 1/4oz of Gold with $100 face.
Not too bad either...wish I could get my hands on more...but they are very hard to find. PS. Canadian $ worth almost .91 US $ A couple years ago I bought some $20 face Canadian Olympic coins for about $15 US $ That triple threat investment is doing just fine. What is the triple threat....nuisimatic, currency play, and silver play...all in one investment. |
Re: Interesting Question About Silver Maples
